Design the Perfect Entertainer’s Kitchen with These 5 Tips

If entertaining is one of your favourite things to do in your kitchen, you’ll love a design that makes entertaining easy.

We’ve put together 5 tips to help you achieve the perfect kitchen design for entertaining.

1. Incorporate an area for guests

One of the most frustrating things about entertaining is being stuck in the kitchen preparing, while your guests are mingling in the lounge area or outside.

A drop-down table space or breakfast bar with seating isn’t just practical if you have kids – but gives your guests an area to sit and chat with you, while staying out from under your feet.

2. Consider your appliances

If you’re entertaining often, your appliances will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

Look for a fridge with a front-door hutch for easy drink refills, with lots of freezer space for canapes and other easy entertaining foods.

It may also be worth investing in a double oven if space permits, as it will make entertaining easier.

3. Out of sight, out of mind

Where space permits, consider how the addition of a butler’s pantry may help lighten your load when it comes to entertaining.

An easy place to keep clutter out of view, your butler’s pantry is a great way to get all of your preparation done without having to worry about a big clean-up before your guests arrive.

4. Bring the outdoors in

It may not be at the front of your mind during the winter months, but come summer, entertaining outdoors is one of our favourite past times.

If your kitchen opens up to the outdoors, position your al fresco area adjacent to the kitchen for easy access for both you and your guests.

Another option is a servery window that opens up when you need it, but otherwise adds a nice view to your preparation area.

5. Lighten the mood

Lighting is everything when it comes to entertaining – and if you’ve got your usual preparation lighting on when you’re hosting guests over, it can seem a little harsh.

Work with your kitchen designer to incorporate different styles of lighting throughout your kitchen, so you can mix and match which ones you have on at any given time.

Consider feature pendant lighting over your island, strip lighting under your cabinetry and dimmers to give you more control over the ambience in your kitchen.
