How to Choose a Sydney Kitchen Renovation Specialist

A good kitchen should feel intuitive and effortless to use – but there’s a lot of planning and thoughtful design that goes into a seamless end product.

It makes complete sense to turn to a professional to help you renovate your kitchen, but there are a few different experts you can help you with your Sydney kitchen renovation. What’s the difference between all these different people, and who is the best fit for your project?

Read on to learn more about how the roles of kitchen designers, architects and kitchen manufacturers differ, and which one you may want to use to transform your space.

Kitchen designers

For a comprehensive and cohesive design for your new kitchen, a kitchen designer is your best bet. Unlike an interior designer, whose focus is more on styling, a kitchen designer takes into account the layout, materials, finishes and fixtures to create a fully-realised design for your project.

Kitchen designers can work independently, or be based in a manufacturer’s showroom. The benefit of the latter is that your designer can plan your kitchen based on what they know is available and can be executed within your budget and timeframe – an independent designer will only provide you with the design, and it’s up to you to find a manufacturer to make it a reality.

Ask to see a kitchen designer’s portfolio to get an idea of their past work, and to see any examples of kitchens that are similar to what you’re envisioning. You can also find testimonials of past clients online (or ask the designer to supply them), for any insights on their process and how they handle unforeseen challenges.

Architects

If your Sydney kitchen renovation is part of a bigger home remodel or extension, it may be a better idea to employ an architect. Concerned more with how the kitchen will integrate into the surrounding rooms of the home, an architect can help you to plan your ideal layout and play with the boundaries of your dining or living areas.

An architect will be more costly, however, and you’ll still need to make your design decisions and find a kitchen manufacturer (and likely a builder) to complete the project.

If going down the architect route, ask for an initial consultation to make sure you’re the right fit for one another before committing your budget. It’s a good idea to get an initial time frame too, so you can coordinate your other contractors and keep your project moving.

Kitchen manufacturers

The last piece of the kitchen puzzle, manufacturers are the ones who make the end product happen. Manufacturers will have relationships with a range of suppliers, so you’ll find a wide range of options across materials, appliances, fixtures and finishes to choose from.

Some manufacturers, like Apollo Joinery Group, will also specialise in custom joinery; meaning you can benefit from a bespoke solution for your cabinetry that’s tailored to your space and your design preferences.

While a kitchen manufacturer generally doesn’t design your kitchen, they may employ kitchen designers to offer a full Sydney kitchen renovation service.

At Apollo Joinery Group, you can visit any one of our showroom locations or get in touch with us for a consultation with one of our expert designers.

Working with one team from the initial planning stages of your renovation right through to installation, you have the peace of mind that everything has already been thought of!
